Mathematician Federigo Enriques, here on holiday in the Alps ca. 1907, was the first to introduce history of science topics into the syllabus of the University of Bologna. His 1902 course "Filosofia della scienza" was addressed to students in the natural sciences, humanities, law, and medicine. The course dealt with topics later developed by Enriques in his Problemi della scienza (Bologna, Zanichelli, 1906, reprinted 1984; American translation: Chicago, The Open Court, 1914).
