Current research

My research activities are currently focused on the problem of cognition and mind within cognitive science, semiotics and philosophy.
Starting from the acknowledgement of the “pragmatic turn” which seems to affect the epistemological framework of contemporary stances in cognitive science -such as Embodied, Enactive, Embedded, Extended and Distributed Cognition-, I try to undersand to which extent practical or active aspects of cognition are foundamental to define mental activities. In a more stronger sense, the aim of my research is to investigate on the consitutive role of the practical dimension in the explanation of mind. Within this conceptual frame, I try to face some of the key issues which permeate the contemporary debate on cognitive science, borrowing some “conceptual tools” from semiotics and pragmatism. Indeed, both semiotics and classical pragmatism seems to be concerned with the same kind of theoretical problems which contemporary cognitive science is now facing. A link between cognitive science, semiotics and pragmatism could then provide a different point of view in the contemporary discussion on cognition and mind.
