Research focus: University-industry nexus, academic entrepreneurship, innovation systems, corporate technical communities.
PhD dissertation: Technological Innovation in Emilia-Romagna: Knowledge, Practice, Strategies (2011, in English).
My thesis deals with innovation in a regional economic system. I studied some of the innovation strategies developed during the last fifty years by entrepreneurial, institutional and academic actors within the third Italian exporting region (i.e. Emilia-Romagna). Developing three case studies I explored respectively: 1) the evolution of corporate technical communities in terms of expertise and innovation practices; 2) the public-private partnerships devised for the construction of local broadband networks; 3) university-industry technology transfer and academic patenting. In my work I adopted analytical tools belonging to science & technology studies and innovation studies, and I used both qualitative and quantitative research approaches.
